Do diffusers and hood dryers dry curly hair the same?

Okay, I was wondering if hood dryers and diffusers provide the same results when drying curly hair? I mean, they both release indirect airflow, thus inflicting minimal damage onto the hair, so, aside from being able to cup the curls diffuser bowl, is there any other advantage that the diffuser has over a hood dryer?

A hood diffuser will better be able to dry the roots of your hair while a sock or bowl diffuser will be better at drying the ends, but will leave the roots damp most likely. And like you said being able to cup the curls with a bowl diffuser has a scrunching effect. There’s also the devafuser (which as far as I know is unique) that can reach roots and ends:

So, yeah that’s about it! Hope this helps! =]
I have never used a hood dryer. But I use a diffuser on my curls every day and I love it.
